Regardless of what happens tonight…

The most important thing for me is to see Billy Donovan stay at Florida. In an age where ego and money mean more to many than honor and loyalty, it would be refreshing to see Donovan approach the days after this great run the same way his players did after winning the championship last year: Foregoing oodles of cash to attempt something as truly audacious announcing you intend to win back-to-back titles.

By staying, Donovan can literally (and audaciously) chart a new history for college basketball. In the process he can teach a lot of kids the value of loyalty, a lesson that too many these days just don’t learn.

“I think Billy Donovan will be a fixture at Florida until and unless he gets to the NBA,” Pitino said. “He’s doing at Florida what Coach K did at Duke. I don’t see him leaving.”He shouldn’t, because the parallel Pitino draws is a good one.Don’t forget that Mike Krzyzewski became a coaching legend and got a court named after him as a reward for his success and loyalty at Duke.

The kid won’t get that at Kentucky, where Rupp Arena is already named after one legendary coach. It wouldn’t, however, take many more Final Fours to get the ultimate gym rat’s name on a piece of Gator hardwood.

And Billy the Kid Court really does have a nice ring to it.
